Facilities Manager (Part-time)
Job Status: part-time.
About 25-35 hours a week (once renovations are complete, the hours will be reduced.)
FEAST recently purchased a new property that has five structures on it in need of renovations. The Facilities Manager is responsible for the oversite of these renovations as well as the continued maintenance and schedules of the property and grounds. The ideal candidate will be someone with the authority to deal with contractors and keep them on task, the wisdom to solicit bids for projects the knowledge and experience to discern if you should do the job of if it should be outsourced, by selecting the best vendor for the job.
- Ability to utilize computer for communications and management of bids (including Microsoft Word & Excel, Office 365, and Google Docs)
- General knowhow of construction terms and practices
- Background experience dealing with contractors and repair personnel
- Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 75 pounds
- Authoritative presence when dealing with contractors and collecting bids
- Previous experience in maintenance and maintenance supervision
- References from previous employers verifying ability to multitask, be self-directed, and keep on schedule.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
The Facilities Manager is expected to work 20-35 hours a week typically from 9am until 5pm. However, in some cases, you may be expected to work extra hours when there is an emergency that needs to be dealt with urgently.
Behind only the Executive Director in authority and responsibility, the Facility Manager walks the facilities to inspect the progress of projects first-hand. They meet with department heads and employees, and discuss needs with ED. The best candidate will need a strong focus on customer service and communication skills. They will need to be perceptive in knowing what to say and when and how to say it. They need to recognize that he or she may be talking to the Board of Directors one minute and a contractor the next; a visitor to the building who’s upset about something and a co-worker who needs help. The ideal candidate will be someone who is effective at keeping on top of everything, maintaining an organized to-do list, and being responsive to deadlines.
A lot of times the Facility Manager is the jack of all trades… the last bullet point is always “Anything and everything else that comes up.”
