Message from the FEAST Sports Office

The FEAST Sports Program is blessed to make available various sports for the home school student. We are planning now for next school year with camps and training sessions to prepare students for athletic competition. So if you are experienced, or have never played a
sport before, now is the time to get plugged in.

Important Parking Issues

You may ONLY park in the FEAST parking areas and on FEAST's side of the street on Burwood. Please do NOT park in the parking lot across the street from our location. If you park across the street, your car will be towed.

FEAST Sports Volunteers' Orientation
Thursday, August 14 from 6:30 - 8:30pm

We will be offering another FEAST Sports Volunteers' Orientation for all coaches, "team moms," or any volunteers that will have direct contact and interaction with our athletes. We have added this requirement for the safety of our children and to assist our volunteers so that they can do their best in the Lord's service at FEAST. If you have attended a Commissioners' or Coaches' Orientation, you do not need to attend another one for this year. Thanks in advance for your willingness to serve.

“From the Bench” John Harris, Athletic Director

Before I begin with other news, I'd like to thank everyone for attending the Fellowship on July 25th. We had a number of volunteers that helped out to make it a great event. Many thanks go out to Linda Whiten, our Sports Coordinator, for organizing the whole thing, as well as Jessica Lindsey, Estela Frias, and the FEAST Board of Directors. Of course, none of this would have happened without the help of all of our sports commissioners, coaches, and volunteers. I am very thankful for their help.

There are still some coaching and volunteer positions open for soccer and basketball this season. We're anticipating large numbers for basketball this season, and would like to have more teams than last season, especially on the middle school level. Assistant coaches are especially helpful. If you have any interest in helping, please see the information below announcing the next FEAST Sports Volunteers’ Orientation on August 14th or contact Linda Whiten or me at the FEAST Sports Office for more information.

With changes come good questions, and one seems to be on the minds of many families: are we still going to be a competitive program? My response is that we are actually working to be even more competitive, now and in the future. Being better organized, having collaborations with fellow coaches and attending clinics, further reading and studying the sport, and benefitting from the counsel of those who know more than we do are a part of our strategy. Many changes are coming in some of our sports programs, while others are well-established and don't need any changes - but all need a good game plan. To that end, we have great volunteer commissioners who are working hard to make us even better.

Lastly, I'm looking for some volunteers to join me and a few others for our new "team." The cost of having sports for our kids is not cheap, but we can reduce them if we can organize our efforts and also get some "partners" to assist us. I am organizing a fundraising committee for FEAST Sports to relieve the pressure of high registration costs, as well as making some sorely-needed equipment purchases and facility repairs. We need all kinds of personalities, including those who love to talk about FEAST as well as those who are just as comfortable working behind the scenes. If you feel that God is calling you to be a part of this team, please contact me personally at jharris@homeschoolfeast.com or at (210) 627-7117.

Thanks again for your support. Please keep FEAST and FEAST Sports in your prayers!

“Open Gym” Night!
September 5th, 2008 from 6 to 9pm at FEAST

The FEAST gyms and the field will be open for all kinds of opportunities to play:
Basketball
Volleyball
Football
Dodge Ball
Poof Ball
Goof Ball (huh?)
Wiffle Ball
Tiddley Winks
and whatever other games you want to play!

NO ADMISSION CHARGE, but . . . a love offering will be taken. (Linda Whiten and the FEAST Office still has to pay the CPS bill, you know.)
Please note: This is a FAMILY event, so don't try to leave without your children. (Besides, why would you want to leave a great fellowship time?)
Feel free to bring your dinner or snacks to eat on the patio while we watch our fathers figure out how to put together a volleyball net.
If you thought the Sports Orientation was fun, this will be even better! Don't miss it!

Dear FEAST families,

Since its inception, the focus and overriding purpose of FEAST Sports has been to provide a positive Christian environment for spiritual growth through athletics to currently home schooling families.

It is the desire of FEAST Sports that Jesus Christ be expressed and glorified in the lives of commissioners, coaches, parents and students not only in actions, but in words and thoughts.

For almost 20 years, FEAST's sports activities have been made possible by the volunteer efforts of countless home school parents. FEAST is so grateful for the investment that so many have made in the lives of our home schooling families. Your participation as a family unit continues to be a vital component of the FEAST Sports ministry objectives.

Please see the invitation below for opportunities to serve in FEAST Sports for the 2008-2009 season.

To God be the Glory,
The FEAST Board of Directors
